Being found

three lotus

Three lotus blossoms jumping up from the mud, remind us to lift our hearts and minds to praise God, the source of all life.

This Sunday, marks 12 years since I entered the community. It’s the Feast of St. Bartholomew, aka Nathanael. I love Nathanael because he is the one Jesus saw sitting under the fig tree, he knew him before he ever met him. One day, years ago, reading that gospel, that was very important to me and whenever I hear it now, I identify with Nathanael, sitting there, already known and loved by God. Nathanael is also the one who somewhat snarkily says, when his friends excitedly tell him about Jesus, “Ha, can anything good come from Nazareth?” I take this as a reminder to check my own attitude. And on the other hand, to look beyond the surface with other people; Jesus was able to see clearly, beyond the jokey cynicism, into Nathanael’s goodness and his true potential.
